CANON PERSONALITY:

Responsibility is a thing that weighs heavily on Gwen, though the same could really be said for anyone who’s ever been bitten by a radioactive spider and thrown on a costume. For the longest time, after getting her powers, Gwen was a carefree person, using her Spider-Woman persona for fun and to get fame, not realizing that her actions had consequences, that power had responsibility. She inspired people, but the inspiration wasn’t always the safest sort. When one of her closest friends, Peter Parker, died after turning into a giant man-Lizard (having been inspired by Spider-Woman to take on some power of his own), Gwen realized that things needed to change – that she needed to mature up a little bit and take some responsibility. It’s this change that has propelled Gwen into becoming the hero she’s always had the potential to be, bearing the weight of being viewed as being on the wrong side of the law, even as she tries to protect New York City from old men in bird suits and blind lawyers intent on breaking the law. Time and again, Gwen’s done the right thing – the responsible thing – at the risk of her personal life, such as when she knocked her father out to take him to a private place so that she could face off against rogue cop Frank Castle on her own.

Though she bears the weight of the world on her shoulders – and really, what hero doesn’t – Gwen does her best not to let it show in her interactions with the world around her. Guilt haunts her deeply, and she’s very hurt by what happened with Peter, but she tries to keep herself warm, upbeat, and friendly. She knows, on some level, that life has to continue, no matter what happens – a lesson she learned early when her mother died at a young age – and so because of that, she’s continued pursuing things that interest her – and possibly things that distract her from thinking about the heavier things in life. This is part of why she plays with the Mary Janes – music is her passion and her escape. It’s also the one thing outside of super heroics that she’s ever felt she’s really good at.

Gwen is quick to embrace outsiders - people who don’t have anyone else, people who are looked down by most everyone else. In high school, when Harry Osborne first started, he was teased and outcast, given the nickname Green Goblin. Gwen, instead of being one of the ones to make him feel like an outsider, stood up and went to go talk to him, to befriend him, and give him a place in their world. This niceness of hers even extends to her enemies. Her (lame) arch-nemesis, Bodega Bandit, lost his pet. When she learned of this, Gwen went and gave him a new pet and sidekick so that he wouldn’t be as lonely, so that he would have someone.

Despite her knowing how important people are, though, when it comes down to it, Gwen is terrible at asking for help. Perhaps part of it stems from the fact that she’s always worried about people getting hurt, and perhaps part of it is from the hero complex that she so obviously suffers from. After a talk with May Parker about Peter - and how May doesn’t blame Spider-Woman for Peter’s death, because it seems as though Spider-Woman isn’t a villain and is trying to atone for what happened - Gwen was down in the dumps. It took her friend Gloria to pull her out of that and force her to get her mind off of the situation by playing with the band tonight. Even when speaking with her father, Gwen tends to take some time to open up and get to the heart of the matter. She always kind of feels as though it has to be her against the world, which is why when push comes to shove, she tries to detach herself from everyone and go do the thing that needs to be done. If she comes back safe and the world is saved, great. If she dies in the line of duty, then at least it’s a worthy sacrifice.

ABILITIES: Because of a radioactive spider-bite, Gwen was gifted with an array of abilities and powers. She can cling to the walls and the ceiling like a spider, she has perfect balance and equilibrium, superhuman speed and agility, and augmented musculature. She can lift approximately ten tons. Along with that, Gwen also has a special sixth sense - her spider-sense - that alerts her to nearby oncoming danger, though sometimes it’s a little unreliable. She’s a somewhat skilled freestyle fighter who learned most of her moves from watching kung-fu movies. It has been noted that Gwen really doesn’t know how to throw a proper punch.

Apart from her superhuman abilities, Gwen has a proclivity for detective work and analytical thinking, thanks to having spent so much time with her father, who’s a cop. She’s well-versed in police protocols and methods.

She also plays the drums with her band, the Mary Janes.

INVENTORY; (what your character is carrying on them at the point they’re taken from) Spider-Gwen has her Spider-Woman costume on, as well as a pair of web-shooters which trap moisture from the air that creates the web-fluid that Gwen uses to eject ropes, nets, and globs. As well as this, Gwen has her smartphone (if allowed) which at this point is just good for her music and the pictures available on the phone. She also has her favourite pair of drumsticks on her.
